Fue al principio una prenda a modo de toga,
de un tejido de hilos vegetales teñidos, que se sujetaba
en los hombros. Pero en el siglo XVII la falda escocesa o
"kilt" se identificaba con Escocia y consistía
en una falda de unos siete metros de Tartán y plisada
salvo en el último extremo de cada lado. Es a partir
de 1940 cuando las mujeres empiezan a utilizarla. Se lleva
como prenda femenina desde 1940. Las versiones modernas se
confeccionan con unos dos metros de tela plisada, con cinturilla.
Estuvieron muy de moda en los años setenta.
