Estudió diseño industrial, pero al cabo de unos años de estudio independiente, se convirtió en diseñador de ropa masculina en 1995. Trabajó con Walter Van Beirendonck en París, donde se dío a conocer a Martin Margiela y Jean-Paul Gaultier. En el verano de 2005 fue nombrado director creativo de Jil Sander, propiedad del Grupo Prada. Impulsado por su amor a las dos culturas jóvenes rebeldes y ropa de hombre tradicional, que emerge de manera a mitad de la década de los noventa, la presentación de una imagen radicalmente diferente de la masculinidad.
